Cara Mia

Cara is a Utah-based photographer and educator. She honestly admits that in the last few years she has watched her life fall apart and slowly come back together again. What she realized through this process is that we are our own art: continuously evolving and changing at every phase. She believes it’s okay to not be okay. It’s okay to retreat and withdraw and heal. It’s okay to hustle when you need to. It’s okay to question yourself and fall out of love with photography and get burned out. It’s okay to start over. It’s all part of the creative process.

“I thrive when I’m out of my comfort zone, reinventing how I do things, and discovering new perspectives. Those risks are what helped me find my own voice as an artist and are what I’m most proud of. Not because they’re perfect—but because they make me feel something.”

Her goal at the next Grain is to empower other photographers to return to themselves, at whatever phase they’re in.
